The design challenge for this project was to create something unique for Flagler College’s Design Week. Design week consists of a series of programs, workshops, and guest speakers that explore the world of graphic design and fine arts.The goal for this project was to create something that would compliment the octopus typeface while organizing the information in an eye-catching way. The title “Evolve” stems from the origins of motion and movement like the tentacles on an octopus.

The design solution was to relate the “Squish” octopus typeface to the design of the poster for Design Week. Research consisted of finding a word that related to the typeface and the concept of the poster, matching a color scheme to the overall theme, experimenting with different typefaces to add contrast between the illustrations and Squish typeface. The typeface “CoconPro” blended well with the Squish typeface and allowed contrast between information text and illustration. Light, Excon, and Regular Coconpro characters were used throughout the front and back of the poster. This poster design communicates the message by including consistent illustrations and text formatted to be easily read. In the end, the color scheme, imagery (textured background), text, and illustrations all came together to create this unique poster for Flagler College’s 2023 Design Week.
